I took this photo yesterday. It was a lovely day, bright blue skies and some clouds.
Photo taken at The High Line, on of my favorite parks in New York.
The High Line is a public park built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets of Manhattan's west side.
For more info, visit the High Line website.

  1. Nellies, I think the Highline Project is just ingenious. I was surprised to learn that my home town of Townsville has borrowed the concept and are building a similar thing. I can't wait to see it.

    1. I'm so glad someone had this great idea to build a park on old railroads, especially because this park is above street level, it gives you some great views. I can imagine you are glad to hear that they are going to do something similar in Townsville, will "your" park be above streetlevel as well?

    2. I believe its elevated at different levels, BUT it will sure not be anything like NYC. Nothing could be! I'll take some pics of Tsv's.

  2. Interesting place to recycle for a city park! Your skies are lovely too. Is this a Frank Gehry project?
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Yes, it is indeed a interesting place to recycle for a park. But it is a beauitful addition to all the other parks we have in the city.
This park is not a Frank Gehry project, but the white building on the far left op the photo is. I am a big fan of this building.

  4. It doesn't look to crowded in this shot. I walked the length of it last year and got the impression it could get quite congested up there on a sunny summer day.

    1. Yes Wayne, you are absolutely right, unfortunately I can get quite crowded. The day I was there this week it was not too busy.
They (the High Line people) had hoped, but never really expected, they would have over 2 million visitors a year when they proposed the idea for this park to the City....

    1. Yes, I know, during summer it is hard to walk around
Best to go early in the morning or late at night :-)

  6. I only remember it as it was in 1963. I'm impressed by the beauty of it to day.

    1. I can imagine. I have seen photos from the early days and it didn't look very nice then. But still I wish I could have seen it back then when the rails were still in use.
It must have been so different from today. THe whole area around this park is changing. They have art galleries everywhere, very expensive apartment buildings, I don't think there have ever been as much tourists in that part of NY before the High Line park was there.
